August 2026 Fastfrwrd Update

This past month we made three small donations to Trees.org to offset podcast production, music production, game engine use, messaging services for work and leisure, game jam promotion and hosting emissions, and game tutorial learning use.

Audio and Game Engine offset for one year of 10 hours of audio production per week. Streaming 1 hour of audio per day for a year would incur 20.07 kg of CO2 annually. One young tree absorbs 10kg per annum so about 2 trees will cover an hour. I can only produce music in Ableton because it’s a cop out to stream audio with this offset. I am buying so I can produce, not entertain myself. Say I produce for 10 hours every week, I will need 2 units at $0.76 USD each to compensate a year of music making.

Then. There’s video offsets. I will want to make games in the Unity game engine and in Twine. Let’s say making a video game is twice as emissions heavy as watching a video. 1 hour of daily video streaming per annum results in 75.19kg of CO2. Buying 6 units at 2.84 USD each means that I can work 3 hours each day for a year on Twine and Unity games:

Then messaging for a year and the emissions from holding a game jam were guestimated to require $5 USD to compensate:

Finally game engine learning including messages, tutorial streaming, debugging searches and so forth were guestimated to require a $10 USD donation:
